Trader Joe's Cauliflower Crust: Review

After much anticipation, Trader Joe’s finally opened near my house this autumn!! I went to check out what all the buzz is about with my partner and our daughter. We showed up on a Sunday afternoon (rookie mistake) and it was PACKED! Picked up the cauliflower crust, cookie butter, a cheap bottle of wine and left.
Crowds are not my thing.
Cauliflower crust has been on my list to try after cauliflower “fried rice” and cauliflower “buffalo wings” were a huge success with my omnivore partner. I’m vegan so I usually check ingredients in the store but with the chaos at Trader Joe’s that afternoon, I threw it in my cart and crossed my fingers.

The first ingredient is cauliflower, which is awesome because it is cauliflower crust. The rest of the ingredients are corn flour, water, corn starch, potato starch, olive oil and salt. All good things- no eggs or dairy to bind the crust together BUT it does state in bold after the ingredients “May contain traces of milk.” Major bummer. The possibility of milk being in the crust was the only disappointment for me with this product. The price was on point- $3.99/crust made with organic ingredients.

I prepared the crust as suggested on the box. Preheated the oven to 450 F, cooked crust upside down for the first 10 minutes, flipped it over for another 10 minutes, added our toppings and broiled on high for 5 minutes.
I was SO impressed by the finished product. The crust was crispy and flakey with great texture. It held up well to the sauce, cashew cheese, pesto, shiitake mushrooms and greens we used to top the pizza. Best of all it was taste tested and approved by my partner (who is a chef) our daughter and our dog, ha!

After enjoying the pizza so much, I did a simple google search “Is Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Crust vegan”. It is not advertised as vegan on Trader Joe’s website, but it is listed by PETA as a vegan approved food. That counts enough in my book and we will definitely be using this crust for future pizza nights!
